From Canada's Forests Comes 2024's Ultra High Relief Pulsating Maple Leaf. The world-famous Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) introduced the beautiful Walter Ott-designed Maple Leaf coin in 1979. That popular and iconic design remained unchanged until 2022, when it was re-sculpted in Ultra-High Relief (UHR) by former RCM Senior Engraver Susan Taylor. Because she had worked closely with Ott during his tenure at the Mint, Taylor was deemed the only person officials at RCM felt had the skill and experience to master this momentous task.

Coin Celebrates Canada's Forests With Pulsating Fields And Ultra High Relief Detail. In 2024 for the third year of Canada's Ultra High Relief Maple Leaf series, the one-ounce silver coin has elevated Taylor's design into a new dimension with a technologically advanced striking method that creates a unique pulsating field. Here's how it works: Hundreds of micro-engineered, precision-engraved, sub-millimeter-scale surfaces have been struck into the fields of this coin in such a manner that the boreal forests of Canada seem to rise from their surfaces as the coin is rotated.

The Forest Field is repeated on both sides of the coin, further incorporating the very forests that make up so much of Canada's landscape into the coin's design! Simply put, these coins are not only miniature works of art but also miniature sculptures.

What's more, they were also struck as Reverse Proof coins. A Reverse Proof is the opposite of a regular Proofs that features frosted details rising over mirror-like fields.
